Mission
At John Gosling PhD Mental Health Training we strongly believe that healthy workplaces and communities start with the mental health of individuals. Roughly 20% of Australian adults will experience a common mental illness in any 12-month period, and around 1 in 2 will experience one in their lifetime.
Aside from the very real personal impact of mental health conditions, mental illness causes greater levels of absenteeism, sickness, and long-term work incapacity than any other health condition in Australia. Depression alone is predicted to represent more disease burden worldwide than any other condition by 2030.
A crucial part of tackling this problem is creating communities that have good mental health literacy and understanding of mental health, that actively destigmatise mental illness, and that support mentally healthy behaviours and encourage help-seeking. John Gosling PhD Mental Health Training offers courses that specifically target these by developing skills and confidence in supporting others, from Mental Health First Aid training to Conversations About Suicide, and nurturing skills and capabilities in oneself through courses such as Mindfulness and Stress.
Our team comprises mental health professionals with a range of research, teaching, and applied expertise. Our team members also draw on their diverse backgrounds in terms of lived experience with and caring for others with mental illness. See our team here.
